     We at St. Mary Queen of Peace congratulate you! God has blessed you with a child. Now, you are presenting that child for baptism in the Catholic Church. We welcome all in our Catholic Community, as well as those from other faiths and non-believers. Through the mystery of baptism, your child will be born again. Through baptism, your child will become a Christian, a member of the Body of Christ and a valued part of our Christian community. It is our hope that through this Sacrament, your family will grow in faith, serve God and others, and join us in the worship of the living God.

      The following are some preparatory considerations for you.
Church attendance: The Eucharist is at the heart of our Catholic belief. It is "the source and summit of the whole Christian life" (Lumen Gentium, no. 11). Our regular participation in the Eucharist is the most important sign of our commitment to what we believe. Several times in the rite of baptism, you will be asked if you accept the responsibility of raising your child in the practice of the faith. If this is your intention, now is a good time to commit yourself to weekly participation in Sunday Masses.
      Parent/Godparent preparation: If Godparents are members of another parish, they may take a class offered at their parish. In this case, a letter or certificate certifying completion of the class would be presented, in addition to a certificate of eligibility for sponsorship. Parents and Godparents would need to complete a brief paperwork and take a baptism preparation class prior to the baptism. After the class, you may choose a date for the baptism. Baptisms in English are held every second Saturday at 11:00 am. Baptisms in Spanish are held every fourth Saturday at 11:00 am.
     Marriage outside the Church: Some parents who were married outside the Catholic Church and those who are not married at all may wonder if their child may be baptized in the church. The answer is YES. Meanwhile, this would be a good time to talk to a priest about getting married in the church. Marriage within the church would bring you closer to the Eucharist, and help you be a better Christian witness for your child. For more information, please call the parish office at 325-646-7455.

         Godparents: Before the baptism, one of the most important issues is the choice of godparents for your child. Expectations of godparents vary from one family to the next. When you choose your child’s godparents, talk with them, about what your mutual expectations are. The Catholic Church requires the following of godparents:
You have to designate them, and they have to be willing to help your child lead a Christian life in harmony with the Catholic faith.
They have to be at least sixteen years of age.  
They have to be Catholics who have received the three sacraments of initiation: Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
They have to be individuals other than the child’s parents.
You may have one or two godparents. If you choose two, one must be male, and the other female. You must have at least one Catholic godparent. In addition, a baptized person who is actively practicing the Christian faith may be a “Christian Witness” but only in company of a practicing Catholic as godparent.

     The following are some practical considerations to help make the Sacrament a smooth celebration for everyone on the day of Baptism:  
Out of courtesy and consideration for all involved, please be on time.
Photography: the Priest will be happy to pose for photos after the baptismal liturgy. You are welcome to take pictures during the Baptism or video the ceremony. 
The celebration of baptism is a joyous occasion; kindly remember that it is celebrated in the house of God. We ask that you help us as a community to celebrate the Sacrament with dignity and decorum by observing quiet reverence before, during and after the ceremony. Please remember to dress appropriately and to dispose of any chewing gum. We also ask that you do not bring any food or drinks in the church, except what your child needs.

The gift of faith is one of the most important gifts that you can give your child. We celebrate with you on this very special day. May your family be richly blessed. In the years following your child’s baptism, you may gather as a family on the anniversary of the baptism and mark the day with this simple blessing from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers. (Child’s name), on this day the Christian community welcomed you with great joy. You were baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. You put on the Lord Jesus. Today, we sign you again with the cross by which you were claimed for Christ, and we pray that God’s blessing be upon you. (Each person signs the forehead of the one celebrating the anniversary and says: Blessed be God who chose you in Christ.) This is a good time to share with them your pictures or video of the child’s baptism. We wish you every joy and happiness in the years to come with the beautiful child that is God’s gift to you. Felicitaciones de parte de todos nosotros aquí en Santa María Reina de la Paz! Dios los ha bendecido con un hijo(a). Ahora, usted lo está presentando para ser bautizado en la Iglesia Católica. Les damos la bienvenida a todos en nuestra comunidad católica junto con aquellas personas de otras denominaciones. A través del misterio del Bautismo, su hijo nacerá de nuevo. A través del Bautismo, su hijo será un discípulo, miembro del cuerpo de Cristo y un miembro bien importante en nuestra comunidad. Esperamos que a través de este sacramento su familia crezca en fe, comparta nuestras preocupaciones, sirva a otros y se una a nosotros adorando a Dios. A continuación, algunas cosas que deben considerar mientras se están preparando. Asistencia a la Iglesia: La Eucaristía es el corazón de la fe Católica. Nuestra participación en la Eucaristía todos los domingos es el signo más importante de nuestro compromiso. Varias veces en el rito de Bautismo, se les preguntará si aceptan la responsabilidad de criar a su hijo practicando la fe. Preparación para los Padres y Padrinos: ñ Los padres deben estar inscritos como miembros de Santa María. ñ Por lo menos un padre de familia debe asistir a la sesión de orientación que se ofrece todos los primeros martes del mes. ñ Los padres y los padrinos deben completar todo el papeleo requerido, y deben asister a una clase de preparación antes de programar el día de la celebración del sacramento de Bautismo. ñ Si los padrinos son miembros de otra parroquia, ellos deben tomar la clase en su iglesia. En este caso, es necesario un comprobante para certificar que completaron la clase y también se necesita llenar los documentos que tenemos en nuestra oficina. ñ Las clases de preparación para el Bautismo se ofrecen todos los terceros sábados del mes. ñ Después de haber completado todo el papeleo y hayan asistido a la clase, por favor llame a la oficina para programar el día del bautismo. Los bautismos en Español se ofrecen los cuartos sábados del mes a las 11:00 am. Matrimonio fuera de la Iglesia: Algunos padres que están casados fuera de la iglesia se preguntan si pueden bautizar su hijo en la iglesia. La respuesta es que sí pueden bautizar a su hijo(a). Este es el momento para hablar con el padre o pastor sobre esto. A través de una serie de pasos la iglesia puede reconocer su matrimonio o convalidarlo. Cuando se case por la iglesia podrá comenzar a recibir la Comunión y lo ayudará a ser un mejor testigo cristiano para su hijo. Los Padrinos: Antes del Bautismo, una de las cosas más importantes es el escoger los padrinos para su hijo. Las expectaciones de los padrinos varían de una familia a otra. Cuando escoja sus padrinos, hable con ellos para que sepan lo que usted espera de ellos. La Iglesia Católica requiere los siguientes requisitos para los padrinos: ñ Deben ayudarles a encaminar a su hijo en la fe y vivir en armonía con la fe católica. ñ Deben tener por lo menos 16 años de edad. ñ Deben ser católicos bautizados y confirmados y que hayan recibido la Primera Comunión. ñ Deben vivir y practicar la fe católica. ñ Debe ser alguien que no sean los padres del niño. ñ Pueden tener uno o dos padrinos. Si escoge dos, uno debe ser una mujer y el otro un hombre. Los dos padrinos, si son católicos, deben cumplir con todos los requisitos de la iglesia católica. Una persona bautizada y que esté practicando la fe cristiana puede actuar como testigo, junto con la persona católica. A continuación se les ofrece algunas sugerencias prácticas para que el día de la celebración todo salga bien. En consideración a todos los que van a participar en la ceremonia por favor llegue a tiempo. ñ El Rito de Bautismo se lleva a cabo todos los segundos domingos del mes para las familias de habla inglesa y todos los cuartos sábados del mes para las familias de habla hispana. ñ Fotografías: El sacerdote estará disponible después de la ceremonia para que tomen fotos. Pueden tomar fotos y hacer un video, si lo desean, durante la ceremonia. ñ La celebración del Bautismo es una ocasión de alegría y jubileo, pero por favor recuerde que está en la casa de Dios. También se les ruega vestirse con decoro, no mascar chicle y no llevar ninún líquido o comida a la iglesia. La fe es el regalo más importante que usted le puede dar a su hijo. Nosotros celebramos junto con su familia este día tan especial. Que Dios les bendiga. En el aniversario del día de Bautismo de su hijo, puede reunir la familia y marcar la ocasión con esta oración sencilla. (El nombre del niño), en este día la comunidad cristiana te dio con alegría la bienvenida. Tú fuiste bautizado en el nombre del Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. Te pusimos en las manos de Jesús. Hoy, nosotros volvemos a hacerte la señal de la cruz, afirmándote en Jesús .Le pedimos a Dios que te bendiga. (Cada persona hace la señal de la cruz en su frente diciendo “Bendecido sea Dios porque ha sido elegido en Cristo”. En estos días en que ustedes celebran el aniversario del bautismo de su niño(a), ustedes tienen la gran oportunidad de compartir con su niño(a) las fotos o el video.
